Varicocele Repair

Varicocele Repair

Varicocele is a common cause of male infertility. Around 15-20 percent of men in the general population have a varicocele, and that rate dramatically increases to 40 percent in those men who suffer from primary infertility.

How does varicocele affect fertility?

Similar to a varicose vein in the legs, blood pools within veins in the scrotum, resulting in swelling and dilation. This causes an increase in scrotal temperature, and negatively impacts testicular sperm production. The testes are outside of the body because of the requirement for sperm production to be at two degrees cooler than the body. Besides leading to low sperm production and decreased motility, it also alters the DNA fragmentation and affects sperm quality

When to get a varicocele repar?

Only varicoceles diagnosed clinically while examining the male partner require treatment. Varicocele repair is a daycare procedure and treatment of clinical varicoceles improve both natural fertility and ART outcomes.
