Blastocyst is the stage of development embryo reaches after 5-6 days of fertilization and is able to implant in the uterus. Blastocyst Culture and Transfer is a new-age technique that involves the creation of an embryo followed by culture in a laboratory up to the blastocyst stage in place of conventional 3 days before transfer.

The embryos formed after fertilization by IVF or ICSI method are cultured in the laboratory for 5-6 days till they form two distinct layers – an outer layer of trophectoderm/trophoblastic cells and the inner cell mass (ICM). This stage is known as the blastocyst stage. It is important to note that all embryos do not grow to the blastocyst stage
The embryologist will select the best embryo for transfer. The selected blastocyst is then transferred into the uterus with a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance.
