Donor sperms are selected based on personal attributes mainly physical, ethnicity, educational socio-economic and other characteristics. The donors are carefully screened and receive blood tests for sexually transmitted diseases, both before they donate, and six months after they have donated. Sperm is quarantined until all analysis is complete and results are known. The sperm sample is frozen for a period of six months before being used

Prior to the procedure (IUI or IVF), the semen sample is evaluated again to check the percentage of motile (normal and forward moving) sperm in the sample. For IUI multiple vials maybe required. Donated sperm can be injected into a woman’s reproductive organs (intrauterine insemination) or used to fertilize mature eggs in a lab (in vitro fertilization).
