10 Essential FAQs for Aspiring Parents

Everything you need to know

What is the first step I should take when I’m worried about fertility?

Start with an open conversation. Share your desire to conceive with your partner and schedule a consultation with a fertility specialist—like those at PHS Fertility—to review health history, lifestyle, and possible tests such as hormone panels or semen analysis.

If you’re under 35 and haven’t conceived after one year of unprotected intercourse— or after six months if you’re 35 or older— it’s time to seek a fertility evaluation. There’s no need to wait in silence.

Don’t believe the rumours: you don’t automatically need IVF after three months of trying, stress alone doesn’t stop you from conceiving, and age does matter—but it’s not the end of your journey. We explore these topics in depth on the Fertility Podcast.

In women, age-related decline, hormonal imbalances, PCOS, blocked tubes, or endometriosis. In men with a no sperms, or low count or motility issues, structural concerns, or lifestyle factors. Most importantly, many causes are treatable, often together.

IVF may be suggested when other methods haven’t worked or for specific conditions (e.g. decreased egg reserve, advanced age, blocked tubes, low sperm count). It involves monitoring cycles, retrieving eggs, fertilising in the lab, and transferring embryos—all done with careful, personalised support.

Expect highs, lows, and unanswered questions. It’s normal to feel hopeful and anxious at the same time. Engage in counselling, share your feelings with your partner or support group, and lean on the compassionate guidance of your care team.

Absolutely. A balanced diet, regular moderate exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, reducing stress, and avoiding smoking, alcohol, or environmental toxins—all contribute positively. We share practical tips in Fertility Support videos.

Repeated miscarriage often calls for deeper evaluation: genetic tests, clotting profiles, uterine assessments, or hormonal checks. You deserve answers and compassionate care at every step, and we’ll help you find them.

We believe every hopeful parent deserves support. Ask about our flexible financing options, accessible clinic packages, and community-based resources. We’ll help guide you through what’s possible.
